Catalog Description:

Students will participate in direct patient care interactions with practitioners and patients to advance patient welfare in authentic practice settings. Participation in Pharmacist Patient Care Process emphasizing patient data collection and assessment for possible medication-related problems.

Course Description and Goals:

The Direct Patient Care Experience (DPCE) is designed to refine students’ ability to perform the components of the Pharmacist Patient Care Process (PPCP) in an authentic practice setting prior to beginning APPEs. Students will participate in the management of multiple disease states and medication-related problems using professional decision-making and critical thinking skills with opportunity to identify and modify PPCP skills needed for successful APPE performance.
