OVERVIEW

The goal of this program is to provide web-based training in the required DOT areas to those working with or around radioactive materials who may make deliveries, prepare packages for delivery, or be responsible for the safe preparation of packages for transport.

The DOT training requirements include:

- General awareness and familiarization with radioactive materials

General safety considerations for radioactive materials
Security awareness training
Function-specific training for those tasks that the employee performs (E.g. packaging, labeling)

OBJECTIVES

At the conclusion of the appropriate modules, the participant will be able to:

1. Define hazardous materials

2. Discuss the general safety considerations associated with the transport of radioactive materials
3. Describe the security measures to be taken with radiopharmacueticals.
4. Delineate the function specific considerations for different tasks involving the preparation of packages for transport.

OVERVIEW

General Radiation Safety training is required of all employees who receive, or might receive, an occupational exposure while working in or near a controlled area. These individuals may routinely enter the controlled area and encounter postings, radiation producing devices or radioactive materials. Employee responsibilities for observing and obeying radiation safety postings and procedures are emphasized throughout this training.

OBJECTIVES

The participant will be able to IDENTIFY:

  1. Basic radiological fundamentals and radiation protection concepts.
  2. The relative risks of exposure to radiation and radioactive materials, including prenatal radiation exposure.
  3. Individual rights and responsibilities as related to implementation of the radiation protection program (including the ALARA Program).
  4. Actions implemented to control doses under emergency conditions.
  5. Exposure reports or other exposure data which may be provided and how to request these reports.
