OVERVIEW

The DOT Training for Highway Shippers and Transporters of Radioactive Material/Radiopharmaceuticals - Courier Services course is intended for those who make deliveries only and do not prepare packages or shipping documents for radioactive materials.


The DOT training requirements covered in this course include:

  1. General awareness and familiarization with radioactive materials.
  2. General safety considerations for radioactive materials.
  3. Security awareness training.
  4. Function-specific training for the training for the transport and delivery of radioactive materials.

OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this course, the participant will be able to:

  • Define hazardous materials.
  • Discuss the general safety considerations associated with the transport of radioactive materials.
  • Describe the security measures to be taken with radiopharmaceuticals.
  • Describe the specific considerations for the safe transport and delivery of packages of radioactive materials.

2025 PROGRAM

OVERVIEW

The DOT Training for Highway Shippers and Transporters of Radioactive Material/Radiopharmaceuticals - Radiopharmacy/Manufacturing Facility course is intended for those who prepare packages and shipping papers for radioactive materials and/or are responsible for oversight of the safe preparation of packages and shipping papers of radioactive materials and its ground transport.

The DOT training requirements include:

  1. General awareness and familiarization with radioactive materials.
  2. General safety considerations for radioactive materials.
  3. Security awareness training.
  4. Function-specific training for preparing and labeling packages, preparing shipping documents and transport of radioactive material by ground shipment.

OBJECTIVES

At the conclusion of this course, the participant will be able to:

  • Define hazardous materials.
  • Discuss the general safety considerations associated with the transport of radioactive materials.
  • Describe the security measures to be taken with radiopharmaceuticals.
  • Describe the function specific tasks involving the preparation of packages and shipping papers for transport of radioactive material by ground shipment.

2025 PROGRAM

OVERVIEW

This Department of Transportation (DOT) Highway course intended for Nuclear Medicine Department (NMD) employees who prepare and ship radioactive material packages of Limited Quantity and/or Radioactive Type A shipments by ground. In addition to the general DOT requirements, NMD employees will review how to prepare and ship radioactive material packages for ground transport.

The DOT training requirements include:

  1. General awareness and familiarization with radioactive materials.
  2. General safety considerations for radioactive materials.
  3. Security awareness training.
  4. Function-specific training for preparing and labeling packages including limited quantity shipments and preparing shipping documents for ground transport.

OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this course, the participant will be able to:

  • Define hazardous materials.
  • Discuss the general safety considerations associated with the transport of radioactive materials.
  • Describe the security measures to be taken with radiopharmaceuticals.
  • Describe the function specific tasks involving the preparation of packages and shipping papers for transport of radioactive material by ground shipment.

2025 PROGRAM

OVERVIEW

This course is supplemental to DOT Training for Highway Shippers of Radioactive Materials for ground transport of radioactive materials and is NOT available as a separate course. It is the user’s responsibility to ensure that all other DOT training requirements have been met as outlined in the Prerequisites listed below.

Goal: The goal of this program is to provide required training specific to the packaging, labeling and proper documentation of packages containing radioactive materials with the proper shipping name of Radioactive Material, Type A Package to be offered for transport by domestic air carriers.

Prerequisites: Satisfactory completion of DOT Training for Highway Shippers of Radioactive Materials for either Radiopharmacy/Manufacturing Facility employees or Nuclear Medicine Technologists.

  1. General awareness and familiarization with radioactive materials.
  2. General safety considerations for radioactive materials.
  3. Security awareness training.

OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this course, the participant will be able to:

  • Discuss the regulatory agencies responsible for US air transport of radioactive materials.
  • Discuss the input of advisory groups who influence the regulations of air transport of dangerous goods.
  • Explain the requirements for appropriate packaging and labeling of packages offered for domestic air transport.
  • Complete a Dangerous Goods Air bill for Radioactive Material, Type A Package.
